Chronic Hives

Hives (Urticaria) are characterized by an itchy patch of skin that turns into swollen, red welts. The associated itching can be mild to severe and can worsen with things like stress or exercise. These welts will often “blanch”, or turn white when you press them in the middle. Chronic hives typically last for at least six weeks, appearing almost daily.

A popular misconception is that hives are always caused by an allergy. In fact, allergic hives account for a very small percentage of hives. Most hives are not directly caused by an external trigger and are instead the result of immune dysregulation within the body. Regardless of the cause, our specialists are experts in treating hives and have several medication options available to alleviate your hive symptoms.
